Armatures & Stockings

Use a wire body armature and a poly-down filled body stocking to create a doll body that will hold any pose you give it! This technique allows you to choose the pose for your doll even after the doll is complete. For detailed instructions on making posable doll bodies, see Jack's Advanced Book or his fourth video on Advanced Dollmaking.

Head Armature (14-16" doll)

This hollow resin head armature will take the place of the aluminum foil armature that we have been using in the past. The new armature will reduce the problems, such as cracking and air bubbles. The head armature will also assure that you have both eyes level and that they are looking in the same direction. It will also assist in sculpting the correct shape for the skull. The small head is designed to fit an 14-16 inch adult body and armature. Two more sizes are shown at the bottom of this page.

Life-scale baby head armature (NEW)

The new baby doll head armature is designed to make a life-scale baby head. The armature has a perfect shape for consistency in each sculpture. It has eye sockets already in place to assure proper alignment. If you cure the head at 275 degrees for 10-15 minutes the new head armature will totally eliminate the problems with cracking. It is designed to attach to a flexible body armature or a soft body. We recommend 20-22mm flat backed glass eyes for this head.

Head Armature (18-20)

The head armature replaces the problematic wad of aluminum foil that we have all been using for so many years. No more air pockets forming cracks or bubbles on the face! This armature will work for adult dolls from 18-20" tall. If you wish to make a baby doll you may use the 20 inch head armature, it will make an 11 inch baby doll. The body and the wire armature are sold separately from the head. If you want a baby armature they are sold in the baby doll kits, they are different from the wire armatures for the adult doll. Head Armature (20-24" doll)

This new head amrature replaces the old aluminum hand made armature. It is a much more accurate way of sculpting the head. This armature will fit an adult doll ranging in size from 20-24 inches tall. We also use this armature for an eleven inch "half scale baby" head. I matches the "half scale baby" hands and feet armatures. The body and the wire armature are sold separately from the head armature.

Life-scale baby body armature (New)

The new Life Scale Baby Doll stocking is the latest in body armatures. It is made of Doe-suede. It comes with nylon ties to attach the body parts. This is the perfect body to fit the new life-scale head armature. Just stuff it and tie on the body parts. Ready to dress in less than five minutes. The finished doll including the head and feet will be from 20-22 inches tall depending on the size of the head and sculpted part of the leg and shoe. Now you can have perfect feet and shoes every time. Cover the armature with 1/8 inch of ProSculpt. Score the detail into the wet clay, cure it, paint it and you've made a shoe. Top it off with a pair of stockings and you have a perfect fit for your 16-20 inch doll. This armature is made to fit the wooden stand, body armature and hidden brass tubes and rods. Brass Tubes and Rod Hidden Armatures

Brass tubes and rods are use as hidden armatures. They go inside the legs of the dolls and fit on the body armatures perfectly. The rods go in a wooden base and then the body armatures fit perfectly on those. These armatures are the ones that all professional doll makers use. One size fits dolls up to 20 inches tall. There are two 12 inch tubes and two rods in every armature set.
